Fluted Medicine Cabinet! DIY Bathroom Makeover

When we moved into our home, I knew that the guest bathroom would be one of our first projects. The amazing thing about the home we found was that it was SO well taken care of. We joked that the previous owners probably only used half of the house when they lived there. Having said that, this bathroom was one of those builder-grade rooms that was just never updated.

So while everything was in great shape, there were some things that I couldn’t wait to change:

The shiiiiiny chrome faucet

The outdated light fixture

The sheet mirror on the wall

The off-white resin countertop/sink combo

The beige paint on the walls

The red wood cabinetry

And… the chrome/mirror medicine cabinet.

I have a full tour of the bathroom when we first saw it in tonight’s video, but here are a couple shots of it.

Over the past few months, we’ve done WONDERS to that little bathroom. New paint, new mirror, new light fixture, painted cabinets, new countertop, new faucet, new hardware…

But that medicine cabinet was still INTACT. I knew I wanted to update it, but it took me a minute to figure out what to do with it.

Should I take it out and patch the wall?

Should I take the door off and frame it out into an inlet shelf?

Should I reframe the mirror with a matching gold?

Should I get a new medicine cabinet?

I ultimately decided to cover the mirror with some half round pieces of trim, making it into a fluted cabinet!

It was a fairly easy project, and I love how it turned out!
