a boho twist on a home office

Do you ever get in the mood to just switch everything up? For the longest time I was NOT like that. If I got things a “certain way,” even if they were just OK and not great, I wouldn’t change them just because I was nervous that it wouldn’t look as good.

Is that you too? Or just me? (It’s fine). The bad news is that your concern of switching things up and having it look worse is probably right. The good news is that it’s gonna look great if you just keep tweaking it until you love it.

So, back to our little office. We do a lot of projects from home, and it’s been a dream to have a little office space where we can spread out our work, get creative, or just have a space to read and write. It’s a mental thing – you save the kitchen for eating, the living room for relaxing, etc. Keep work in the work room.

To be honest, it was nice for awhile to have a space where you could just “close the door on the mess” when we’re in the middle of a project, while still enjoying the other clean parts of the house. But I’ve been super happy and even surprised to see how much more we love this office now that it has it’s own personality. It’s really drawing more out of our creativity and helping us to stay in the “zone” longer.

I have deep navy accent walls in my kitchen, living room, and bedroom, so it put me in a little bit of a rut to have all these white walls in our office space! I’ve really enjoyed white walls in an all-white bedroom, but that wasn’t the case here. So initially I kept thinking through ways to cozy up the space or make it feel a little more eclectic, just to get that creativity going.

Some things we needed out of this space…

  • backdrop for vlogging (Peter is way better at this than me, I’m still workin on that .tv business though)
  • work station for a desktop computer
  • coffee (duh)
  • desk for sketching calligraphy / design
  • nook for reading / studying / writing

I think we got all those items checked off for now! Still on the hunt for the perfect chair for that drafting table… suggestions welcome! (needs to be adjustable. and I want it to swivel)

Tell me all your thoughts!

macrame – holiday item (I dip dyed them); lamp – target; basket and blanket – thrifted; rug and drafting table – world market; frame – was a broken mirror that i found, backed it with netting and added in the greenery instead
table + chairs – ikea
tapestry – thrifted
