Summer is in full swing, and our gardens around here are needing all the watering they can get! Fortunately, many of our summer weeks are filled with rain storms scattered in between the blazing hot days, so I decided to come up with my own rain catchment system to use the rain water in the garden!
For the most part, I just used things that I had on hand. The only thing I needed to buy was some screening material – I scored a roll of this from the local hardware store for about $9.
My materials list:
3 5 gallon food safe buckets (free from local restaurant)
2 5 gallon food safe lids
1/2″ drill bit
3/4″ drill bit
Rocks
Reused Alexapure water filter (this is very similar to a Berkey filter) – we used it for a year and were just going to throw it away!
Caulk
Paint
This turned out to be a super budget-friendly and space efficient DIY that I’m excited to use through these summer months!
