We just got back from a summer vacation, and it was great! We visited a place I had never heard of before – Apopka, Florida.
I haven’t talked to someone yet that has known where that was, so there’s a chance that this is a really underrated place to visit. It’s only about 30 minutes away from Orlando, and it has so much natural beauty to explore.
We canoed, floated the crystal rivers, hiked, and explored nature.
Kings Landing has two different water paths to take with a canoe, kayak, or paddle board. We started out the week by canoeing here and it was amazing! There was a little rainstorm at the end and honestly, it was a cherry on top to the trip.
Kelly Park was the next place we went to float the river. It cost just $6 parking for the day, and we rented tubes for $7 right across the street, but you could certainly bring your own. Some people tried to float the river without a float, but I wouldn’t recommend it!
We tried out Wekiwa Springs State Park next. I’ve had great experiences with state parks in the past, but this one just wasn’t as good in my opinion. There was a super exotic looking boardwalk that was absolutely gorgeous, but other than that it had nothing on Kelly Park!
We also went to Lake Apopka’s Wildlife Trail. It’s free to drive and look at wildlife. We stayed for a little bit and saw some birds and lots of alligators.
At the end of the week, we explored Winter Park downtown and then headed for a day at Disney World!
It was a great, relaxing vacation! Check out the video below to see where we went!
