Using Books to Style Your Spaces

Whether or not you’re a “book person,” it’s hard to ignore how easily books can add to the charm of a space.

I don’t consider myself a bookworm in the least, but I’ve collected my fair share of vintage books and beautiful cookbooks to use around our home. Oh, and I married quite the book collector, too!

I’m here to show you 6 different ways to style with books that you might have not thought of yet!

Display a collection. Maybe you have a stack of pretty, vintage books or a hardback collection of your favorite trilogy. Stack a few of them in a corner or against a vase to add a little charm.

Flip your books for a cohesive, minimal look. The fewer the better, though, since you’ll still want to be able to locate your books without manually going through all your shelves. This is the easiest way to create a “collection” and have a neutral color block to work with in any room.

Sort your bookshelf by color. I’ve done this one myself. I don’t quite have a full rainbow going, but it’s a fun look to accent a room with!

Use some thrifted books for folded book art. If you have some bare shelves that need a little pick-me-up, this is an easy hack to add some booksy art.

Tell a story with a topical stack of books. I keep a stack of books on my nightstand that keep me inspired or “centered” on my goals. I keep a stack of cookbooks in my kitchen as a reminder to cook exciting meals. Whatever feel you’re going for in a room, add a few of those topical books in a stack and you’ll have a good thing going.

Print or create your own matching dust jackets. Maybe you’re looking to style your shelves with a very particular hue to tie in with the room, or maybe you want your whole collection in black and white. You can easily print or draw your own paper dust jackets to wrap around some hardback books and adorn your shelves. Check out this inspiration from Angela at Saffron Avenue!

That’s it for tonight! I’ll see you next Tuesday with a new blog!
