Have you ever stayed overnight somewhere and realized you forgot something at home? I think we’ve all been there. I think that’s where the tendency to overpack is first introduced. Yeah, yeah, packing should be just the necessities, but sometimes it’s just harder to settle in… or to get going the next day when you don’t have everything you need.
Now flip that scenario to your friend / family member / person you’re being extemely hospitable towards who is staying the night at your house.
Enter: you. You who finger-brushed your teeth because you forgot a brush. You who panicked about not waking up on time because you forgot your phone charger. You who showed up to that meeting/outing/vacation with only wrinkled clothes. You. The one who has been there and is far too considerate to let that happen to someone else.
Here are 5 tips to help you plan ahead for your overnight guests and make your space Aribnb status!
- Let’s get all the basics covered. Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, phone charger, makeup remover, q-tips, soap, shampoo, conditioner, razor, hairbrush. Having a basket of these things on hand is reassuring for your peeps, and even if they bring their own necessities, sometimes it’s a treat for them to try out your stuff, too.
- Take it a step further – stock the shower with some rejuvenating, full-sized shampoos or soaps. It’s nice to not have to take a million different mini travel bottles into the shower, am I right?!
- Think ahead for the no-fun stuff. A quick stash of items for when they’re not feeling their best is a comfort in itself. Pain reliever, Tums, allergy relief… all keys to make sure they get a good night’s sleep and a great start to their day.
- Towellllls. And more towels. And a place to put your wet towel?! Yep, stack up those towels and offer a hamper where they can toss their used ones. Because no one knows what to do with their used towel.
- Give them a treat. Scented candle? Bath salts? If someone has been traveling all day, some extra goodies to help them unwind will be a huge treat. Find an easy recipe for some DIY bath salts here!
That’s all for today! Go take your hospitality game up to a 10 and let me know how it goes!
